Promoting residential construction / Students and Apprentices

Frankfurt must remain attractive to young people who are still training. That is why the city supports the construction of affordable accommodation not only for students but in future also for apprentices – by providing local authority grants for the buildings. The new version of the “Frankfurt Program for Promoting Accommodation for Students and Apprentices” was duly resolved by the City Council as agenda item section 5022 on July 11, 2024. As a result, applications can be filed for funding to create student accommodation. The funding includes loans and grants, providing financial incentives to build new apartments and rooms in flat shares. Moreover, funding is available under the terms of the “State of Hessen Guideline on the promotion of social rented housing” and applications can again be filed with the City of Frankfurt Dept. of Planning under the housing construction promotion program. The new municipal funding program can be combined with the state-level program. Applications can be filed by landowners or persons holding leases to property. A special emphasis is on the long-term attention provision of cheap housing as elucidated in the funding and support guidelines.
